The key aspect of these, for us, was that they were compatible with the Hampton Bay track lighting that we have. I cobbled together a set of (I thought) very pretty Hampton Bay downlights that use a standard GU10 bulb. However, Home Desperate seems to be getting out of the business of supplying separate lighting components (or lights that have replaceable bulbs! >-( ) and could not supply us with enough tracks nor any canopy feeds for them. I was able to swap in the SATCO tracks and canopy feeds as needed, and use the Hampton Bay track lights that I wanted to have. They seem perfectly adequate. No moving parts so I don't expect anything is going to fail ...

The included bracket will not mount to an octagon box with screws that are only 2-3/4" apart. There is not enough metal to custom drill your own holes. I had to buy a universal ring bracket with two sets of slotted holes to adapt my box to this bracket. It was a PIA to get it all flat against the ceiling so the track bottom could sit flush to the ceiling at the box. The cover screws then hit into the ring bracket and had to be custom cut to barely thread into the thickness of the original cover. Arrrrrgh!

To install, you need to feed the wire through stamped sheet metal with sharp edges, otherwise the cover won't go on. No grommets provided to protect wire insulation from getting cut and causing a short or fire.

It works fine...

While I was able to install it to replace an older track lighting set up, the method of attaching the canopy to the ceiling bracket is difficult and poorly designed. One inserts the included screws while the canopy is at a 90 degree ancle to expose the mounting bracket. The one twists the canopy around to its proper angle. The problem is that the screw heads stick out, making it impossible to fully rotate the canopy without exerting significant force to bend the metal brackets so they will fit over the protruding screw heads. While I was knnowledgable enough to figure out a workable solutioin, I would have spent more money and gotten a better product that's easier to install.

I would have given 5 stars, but the Technical Details specify the "Material" being metal. The only metal are the supplied mounting brackets. The cover and the power pigtail are plastic. Functionally, this is not a problem. The unit worked well nonetheless.

Works as advitised. Since the electrical boxed I installed it on is not flush, the cover stick up a bit, but that is not a problem with the product as with the electrician that installed the electrical box.
