Silkie Chickens have smaller beaks and this is just easier for them to eat. They really like this alot better than the larger rocks

It's easy to serve to my chickens, and there's no waste with this box! I've had less success with bags because, even with re-sealable tops, bags find ways of tipping over and spilling the contents. This box stands up straight, and recloses securely. Even if it were to fall over I don't think I'd lose any of the oyster shell.

Small Pet Select has two grades of "Flaked Oyster Shell" and the boxes are identical except for the word "Premium" on the label of this version. The lesser grade has larger pieces of other types of shell mixed in, and as of this date, their website advertises it for about $2 less than this product. So if you think you've found a better price at Chewy, look again.This product is thin flakes of pure oyster shell, and our hens—chickens and ducks alike—gobble it like it was Doritos, which never happened with those little oyster shell rocks that might be anything. Because the shell is finely flaked, yes, there's a little dust at the bottom of the box, so I sprinkle it on their feed.The hens are happy, their eggshells are sturdy, and I'm back to buy another box.
