The thermometer itself is 5 stars: quick, accurate readings, easy to read display.The clip that's supposed to hold it to the side of the pot, though, that's just a piece of trash they threw in the box. It doesn't even rate 1 star. The metal it's made from doesn't have any spring to it; when you put it on the side of your pot (any pot) it simply bends. Lip of your pot is rolled over thicker than the wall? Guess what: the "pinch" point of the clamp is now the width of that rolled over lip, so it doesn't even touch the sides of the pot. The thermometer is just balanced on the edge, not clipped to it, so you have to hold it still with one hand if you are stirring the contents, dropping something into the contents, or have to nudge the pot over half a centimeter because it's not centered, or the thermometer will dive, trailing droplets of molten sugar or oil or whatever, right off the pot onto the nice, hard stovetop if you're lucky, or onto your foot if you're not.

I bought this to replace a candy thermometer which broke when I put it in the sink. Even though it is a simple tool, I am glad to have one made by Taylor. It is much better made than my old thermometer, and is very accurate and easy to read. I used it to make jam, where I needed a precise number so that I didn't damage the pectin by over heating it. This worked very well, and did not explode when I put it in the sink.I bought it because I have a kitchen scale from Taylor which is accurate, reliable, precise... so I knew the brand and the quality of their products. It is definitely worth having kitchen tools which can be used more than once!

This never worked. I bought it knowing my last one finally died after a decade and put this in my drawer, ready to use. The needle was on backwards..I think..it moved, but in the wrong direction and started at 400 degrees.Sadly, Amazon closed the return window, so I’ll never buy this brand again for fear it just won’t work and there’s no accountability.I tried heat and cold. Some movement, but not correct. Save your money

I kept wondering why my deep fried stuff came out too hard or burnt when I was following the recipe. One day the oil bubbled up and the temperature reading suddenly jumped off the scale. That was weird. After some experimentation, I found out the temperature reading rose a lot after I used a spoon to lift the hot oil and pour it around 3/4 up the stem. Then I realized the temperature measuring point is not the pointy tip, but at least 3/4 way up the stem. If the oil is not deep enough to cover all that length, the reading will be very inaccurate.Another issue was that clip kept pushing the tip of the thermometer out into the middle of the pot instead of keeping it at the side and out of the way. I had to use a pliers and bend the clip to a more suitable shape to keep the thermometer stable.I had to buy another thermometer, a liquid in glass type where the measuring point is the glass bulb at the bottom. This was a lot more accurate than this. My deep fried stuff no longer came out burnt.

I use this for almost all cooking now, though mostly it gets used for taking the temperature of hot water now for when I am making bread. It worked well when I was frying some things, though the needle was a little long for the pan I was using, making it a little difficult to get a proper reading. The target arrow (red clip of the outside of the thermometer in the pictures) does pop off rather easily so be careful. The clip works ok. All in all it is a decent thermometer.

I used this to make yogurt, and it worked great. Seems to read fairly accurate, the pan clip was easy to use, and I like the marker to indicate what temp you're aiming for.

Did I dream it or was this supposed to be dishwasher proof in its description? Looks like water would get behind the glass.Works great- responds rapidly-- seems accurate when calibrated by submerging probe in boiling water for 212F.
