These plates don't cover a 5 to 6" gap. The prongs bend when hammering the plate into a wooden stud and the screw holes are in the gap making them useless to use.

I just had our entire basement plumbing redone, and used these to cover the studs where the 2” PVC pipes were running through. Worked really well and didn’t warp as I was hammering these in.

These Therwen Nail Plates are not as thick as most that I have purchased. I do think they will do a good job of protecting the wiring within my framed walls. There are two holes for nails or screws to attach the plates if a person wants to make sure the plate will never, ever move. Great Nail Plates that I am happy to recommend but remember these are not as thick as standard nail plates.

About half as thick as the variety sold in HD or Lowes, but the good thing it has holes to be attached by screws. I don't know how much protection these will offer for wires in walls, but they work for my application just fine - I use them as a base for magnets that I attach to lights in my basement, so I can reposition the lights easily. I flatten the prongs (so being thin means it is easier to hammer them flat) and attach with screws. They are pressed from flat stock and the edges are very sharp, wear gloves.
