Just follow the music on the sheet below the strings and pluck each note following the connecting lines and you play the song! For ages 12 and older. Distinctive beautiful Dogwood Flower soundhole rosette is laser cut solid wood. The frame is solid wood. AND most importantly the pin block is rock maple. This hard wood helps holds the tuning and prevents the pin hole from wearing out. It still needs to be tuned periodically and we have instructions and a link to online video to make it an easy process. We use 3 string sizes for proper tension for best sound. Optional 19 different music packs. I was hesitant buying the TK O'Brien zither, but I am so glad that I did. The sound quality is amazing. I cannot play viola any more and this is helping fill that hole. The music cards make playing fun and easy.The seller is fantastic. I had a ton of questions. He answered all of them quickly. He helped me when I flubbed up my order.When shopping on Amazon, it is easy to think that you are ordering from one big corporation, but TK O'Brien is a music company that only sells to certain resellers and Natural Strings is one of the few for good reasons.I added on music packs and a padded bag. Both were good decisions. The bag is high quality and the packs make the zither more fun.I highly recommend getting this amazing sounding, easy-to-play instrument for yourself.

I was very surprised at how lovely a sound you get out of this little instrument. It's obviously very sturdy and well made. I am very glad that I decided to go with this one instead of a cheaper option, though I have never owned one of the other brands of lab harps so I really can't compare. The only thing that is a little difficult about it is tuning (it arrived in tune, which was impressive.) Once you do have to tune it, it gets tricky. Anyone who has worked with a stringed instrument will know that the shorter the strings are the tinier the adjustment is to change the pitch. Since these strings are by nature pretty short and the pegs are very tight, it's tricky. However, tuning is seldom required. Very happy with this purchase.Note: I actually bought it for an elderly person who is confined to bed. The only improvement I could suggest would be maybe some kind of tiny ledge or something on the bottom of the instrument so that the cards don't keep sliding out for someone who is not able to sit upright while playing it.

Original review 2020:Sides look a little cheap (top is laminate in appearance) comparable in tone quality to a children's instrument but I love this harp, thank youUpdate 2024:This instrument has held up beautifully, and is my favorite to chill jam on before bed. I tuned it to a Greek Dorian diatonic tonos, and it sounds gorgeous. This little lap harp took a minute to warm up and for the tone to soften, but once it was broken in, it's really opened up its voice. I love this lap harp.

Beautiful instrument, great sound. I was tempted to buy the Music Maker because it is so much cheaper, but this is a meter color and has a decorative center hole. I bought it for one son, then had to buy it for another son because it was so popular. It is so well-liked I will buy another just as a family item because the other 4 siblings feel envious. TK O'Brien has another pretty decorative one, but the color online looks like the color of plywood so I chose to get two of these deeper-colored ones. I will buy that other one for the family, though, as it is pretty and likely looks better in person anyway.Both of my sons are musically inclined, so they love it just as a novel item to learn how to play. My other children and I like how it sounds pretty and how music sheets help us follow along like on a kids piano playing simple tunes. Except these tunes, like Scarborogh Faire, don't seem so simple, despite being simple enough to follow along. I also bought the Music Maker Beatles music sheets, which fit perfectly. We plan to buy some Music Maker Disney songs and TK O'Brien's folk music as well, though my two boys have learned to pick out tunes and find great things to emulate on You Tube.

We originally purchased the Music Makers lap harp for our seven-year-old daughter. I had one growing up (that my mom purchased from Hearthsong) and this one was just not up to the quality of my childhood one.After looking around and finding this TK O’Briens one, I bit the bullet and purchased it! OH my goodness, the difference in sound is striking! The quality of wood is also notably better.We also purchased a carrying case which is padded and I highly recommend that!One thing I hoped was that the music maker sheet music would fit into this lap harp and I can say that confidently IT DOES! I will be purchasing ALL the music!My oldest two (of 5 kids) are thoroughly loving playing songs for hours on end, and the sounds feeling my home or peaceful and beautiful!I think the thing we love about it most is that it’s instantly gratifying to play!DON’T HESITATE! If you’re in the market for a lap harp, this is the one for you!

I was looking for a small, easy-to-learn stringed instrument, and the T.K. O'Brien Lap Harp seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I chose the walnut harp with dogwood flower insert, and I'm so glad I did! The wood grain and finish on this instrument is just gorgeous. This is a quality musical instrument (not a toy) with a lovely, clear sound. The included music cards are clearly laid out and easy to follow. I purchased two additional T.K. O'Brien music packs, and will definitely be purchasing more to add to my repertoire. The music cards are really helpful, as I was able to begin playing my lap harp immediately, which is not an easy accomplishment with most other musical instruments! This makes it so much fun to play, as you can jump right in with fun and familiar tunes. This lap harp is a bit pricier than some others that are available, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. It's beautiful, well-built, and has a gorgeous sound. Get one--you'll be glad you did!

This lap harp arrived perfectly tuned, and so far, has stayed that way. Though it looks like it will be easy to tune, when needed. I adore the sound! It has the most beautiful ring to it that lasts a few seconds after plucking the strings. I also like the smallness of size and the ease of simply putting it in my lap. I don't know much about music, and have only been playing this one for a couple of weeks, but because of the ease of playing it and the quality of sound it produces, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
