I've always improvised a plumb bob when I've needed one ... a heavy bolt tied to a length of string, or .....? I finally decided to purchase the "real thing" and this 12 oz (340 gram) works like a champ. The plum bob is very nicely finished and the weight is sufficient for any jobs I will be doing. If you need it for outdoor construction, particular in windy environments, you might want to opt for a heavier model. Highly recommended!
