It's a basic piece of wood, that's fine. The issue is if you already have a thumb rest in the standard position, with the Fender standard bore spacing, or from some other reputable dealer like Hipshot. This product has about a 33.5mm spacing, while that standard is 31.5mm (1.25in). So, you'd have to fill and drill again if you wanted to put this $7 piece of wood on your guitar. Included screws are also much longer than necessary, so you'll be drilling deeper too.

Due to a shoulder injury, I needed a thumb rest closer to the fret board on a stingray 34H. I used some double sided tape (the kind you find on removable stick-on 3M hooks) and it works good - nice feel and sturdy... AND I still have the original clear plastic (that prevents scratches) on the pick guard.

Restoring a 79 P-Bass for a friend. Out of All the screws placed into a plastic baggy, I managed to lose one…. Thumb rest. I initially was shopping for just a pair of Fender screws and spotted this. I love the look and it matches the fretboard perfectly. Here’s what to know. You will need to drill out the screw holes on both the thumb rest AND the bass body, just a tiny bit. After other reviewers mentioned breaking screws, I wasn’t about force them. For the body, I used a 3/32. The rest was just a little bigger to slide screws through. No big deal so it gets 5 stars regardless. Also, as I was concerned but couldn’t find a review to state this, the holes line up perfectly to the originals. I sanded the rest with 1500 to 3000 grit just to get a little more shine.

I run a wood shop and we have tons of walnut all the time, I could have made this pretty easy but for the money.........My time is worth more so I bought this, if you oil it with olive oil it lasts a while and looks really nice. Its not sanded very well though when you get it.
