Sterilize jars and lids in canner

1. Sterilize Your Jars

  • To make the jam, first sterilize your jars.
  • Put the clean jars on top of a rack inside a large stock pot. Add the tongs, ladle, and rings, then fill up the pot with water.
  • Bring the pot to a boil, and allow all of the materials to sterilize for about 10-15 minutes in the boiling water.

3. Crushing Strawberry

  • Pulse the strawberries in a food processor or crushing by hand, until the consistency of a chunky puree.
  • You should have about 4 cups of strawberry puree. If you have less, add water to make it equal 4 cups.

4. Start Cooking Jam

  • Put the strawberry puree, 1 c. water, lemon juice, butter (optional to reduce foaming – omit if you are vegan or need to avoid dairy), pectin, and salt into a pot.
  • Bring to a boil over medium high heat, and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the sugar, then bring back to a boil. Boil hard for 1 minute. Turn off the heat and allow the jam to cool slightly for 5-10 minutes.

5. Filling Jam into Jars

  • Remove the hot sterilized jars to a clean towel on your counter.
  • Using the sterilized ladle, fill the jars with the hot jam, leaving a 1/2 inch head space.
  • Meanwhile, put your clean lids back into the hot water to soften the adhesive and sterilize.

  • Place the hot sterilized lids on top, then screw the rings on finger tight.

7. Water Bath Canning

  • Put the filled jars back into the pot of hot water, and bring back to a boil.
  • Make sure you have at least 1″ of water covering the top of the jars. (Air bubbles will be released from the sealed jars – do not let those escaping bubbles fool you into thinking the water is boiling.) Boil for 10 minutes (covered) to sterilize and seal.

8. Enjoy Fresh Strawberry Jam

  • Once you have boiled the jars for 10 minutes, turn off the heat, and use the tongs to carefully remove the hot jars to a towel on to the counter top to cool.
  • Leave the jars undisturbed overnight.
  • Check the seals in the morning to make sure the top of the lid doesn’t move when you push down on it.

Ordered 3 boxes of 24. Used 26 in 2 days and all but 1 jar sealed - think my ring had some rust so operator error not the lid bc quality. Unlike other reviewers, the lids fit my jars & were not too sharp on the edges. I will be using more lids soon and will update if I have problems with sealing, fit, or sharp edges. Overall pleased as a fast delivery and economical option for canning.

These do not fit on all of my jars like it states it would. Every other ring so far has not fit and I had to throw away since they will not line up to go on the jar. I canned with the ones that did go on and 2 out of 4 lids did not seal. I will not be buying this brand again.

I have been making jam with these lids. I do batches of 12 jars at a time. I have had 2 to 3 failure-to-seal lids in every batch. I am giving as gifts and will tell people to use them right away because I don't have any faith in them lasting a long time.

I make my own canna butter so I go through lots of these lids. As you should always use a fresh lid when you can ( cook in the crockpot) they are great! The seal is always great and I don’t have too much difficulty getting them off once the jars have cooled down. I’ve bought them multiple times.

Las tapas caben un poco ajustadas sobre los frascos Ball. Serìan perfectas si los anillos fueran un poquito mas grandes para que genere un buen sello

I had to throw away about half of the rings because they wouldn't screw onto the jars correctly. I had these cute ball jars that I was putting marmalade in for Christmas presents and it was very frustrating to have to decide which ones were not as difficult to put onto the jars as the ones that just plain, didn't fit. This was not because of the jars because I turned around and ordered Ball brand and they work just perfectly. These are NOT made right and I wasted my money!

Just finished 8 - 1/2 pint jars of jam. Jars were put in a water bath boil for at least 5 minutes. All jars sealed. The lids are a tiny bit smaller and thinner than regular canning lids, but I had no problem putting on the rings. Regular lids are hard to find or much more expensive, so thought I'd let others know my boxes of lids were OK.
