The fitting expander for 5/8” OD tubing aka 1/2” nominal pipe size produced an under-sized expansion, just 0.617” inner diameter, which is at least 0.010” too small to insert an 0.625” OD tube (allowing 0.002” for an interference fit is still too small, but the point is that the tool isn’t properly designed, not to do the tolerance analysis that someone working in metric units did incorrectly, but if the tool is made by molding powdered metal and then sintering and hardening the tools are 3% too small because that’s the nominal shrink that process results in. )The 7/8” OD tool also produced an undersized fitting socket that didn’t accept a tube to be joined. I didn’t test the rest of the sizesI also didn’t have an opportunity to test the tools intended to produce a 45° flare for SAE flare fittings because I wouldn’t keep the set just for the flare expanders.It’s a pity that the product is mis-made and only useful as scrap metal, but that’s the only thing to be done with them; the molds have to be reworked to produce working parts.
