Does exactly what it says on the tin. Works great, no issues with my old 2014 Lenovo tower computer and Proxmox 8.x (Debian 12).

The firmware this ships with does not work on Linux. In the firmware it ships with, hotplug is broken. Hotplug is required for these cards to work on Linux. For everything to work on Linux you need to install firmware 221118-0000-00. You can get this from winraid.level1techs com/ t/latest-firmware-for-asm1064-1166-sata-controllers /98543This card isn't actually an x4 card; it's an x2 card, but they used an x4 slot because there's no such thing as an x2 slot. The first 5 ports are full speed and connect directly to the ASM1166 chip. Port 6-10 are connected to the bridge chip. As long as you only use ports 1-6 then you'll get full speed on all ports. But if you use all 10 ports, 5 of your drives are going to be sharing a single 6Gbps link. You'll definitely notice this with SSDs, but for spinning rust HDDs it might be OK. (For reference 150MB/s is 1.2Gbps.)The ASM1166 chip doesn't properly implement the SATA PM (port multiplier) spec. This causes the card to show up as 32 ports on linux. You can mask out the unused ports; the proper mask for the 10-port card is 0xF000003F. You can look up how to configure the linux ahci module with a port mask by looking at "modinfo ahci" or search for Linux Kernel Bug Bug #211873. I shaved 6 seconds off my boot time by adding the ahci port mask to my grub config. (You could disable 4 of the ports and ensure you get full speed by using 0x3F as the mask). The ports numbers on the silkscreen (paint) don't match the port numbers in the firmware. But you can see the real port numbers during bootup. Ports 0-4 are directly connected. Ports 5, 1C, 1D, 1E, and 1F all share bandwidth. The card did not work for me on a Power9 server (the hostboot firmware doesn't like the card and disables the PCIe port). But it does work on Intel/AMD.I gave this 3 stars mostly because it DOES NOT work out of box on linux, it's not really an x4 card, and the firmware update procedure is a pain and requires access to a Windows machine (which I didn't have readily available). The seller does name the 2 chips used, but unless one looks those up, one doesn't know that 5 drives are all split from a single port.

Needed a new PCI card to be able to bypass on my Proxmox hypervisor to a TrueNas VM. This card allows me to present the drives natively to the VM. TrueNas was then able to read the drives including the serial numbers properly and perform SMART tests as expected. The ASM1666 chip was the decision maker for me as this seemed to be the best option for my setup to maximize the drive speeds. As mentioned before, Proxmox sees the correct chip and allowed the passthrough of the hardware flawlessly. This works similar to my previous LSI card and uses less power to be utilized.

Bought this to add a couple SATA ports to my home server and it worked without issue. Easy install and the drives plugged into it were detected right away by Debian. No complaints so far.

I use this card for my btrfs disk array for my /home/video/ directory. I have learned from experience that when you buy a blu-ray or dvd movie it is a good idea to back the up before playing. I have had many movies that I have bought in the past fail on me and I had to repurchase them again.I also create my own videos and render the videos as a lossless video which can make a half hour video to be 20 GB. A blu-ray backup is 40 to 50 GB thus you need to have a decent amount of drive space for your video/ directory. At the present time I am using this card for 4 20 TB drives running as a single btrfs file system.Warning:Do not add your boot drive to this card which will cause your system to fail to boot the operating system of your choice. Keep your boot drive connected to your motherboard. So far the card has worked as expected.

Used to connect a 3-HDD RAIDZ1 ZFS array, with an SSD log drive in a Proxmox homelab.Much less I/O delay compared to the previous USB3 JBOD tower. I probably don't have the array configured correctly in re blocksize, which probably doesn't help, but it adequately meets my needs.

I recently purchased a newer motherboard for my main home PC ( X670E PG lighting ) but wanted some more SATA ports than came on it, only 4. Also I wanted to to speed up my various disk access speeds for video editing. My C: drive is a NMVe PCIe 4 (will move to PCIe 5 in a couple of yrs when costs drop). Used for Video Editing; 5 cameras and I do up to 2 hour videos - after all editing is done. I now have a SW RAID 0 HDD for raw video and a seperate SW RAID 0 SSD for a working output drive. This Card worked perfect, P&P no drivers needed, only needs a PCIe 3.0 X1 slot for max speed of 1GB/s (mine is in a PCIe 4.0 x1 - as PCIe is backward compatible). The RAID 0 nearly doubles the SATA III disk access, needed now that I have a Ryzen 5 CPU with 32GB 6200 DDR5 Ram. Video editing is much quicker than my old MB with 8300FX 8 core & 16 GB DDR3. The card does not provide any RAID features, it only adds up to 8 ports SATA III, but Windows 11 fully supports its own SW RAID and is super simple to implement in " Disk Management" - and I also put my Swap file on my RAID drives. You can get your hands on USED 1 or 2 TB 7200 HDDs now for super cheap and also USED SSD's. Also you can SW RAID up to 8 SSDs/HDDs per assigned disk through this Card, modern chip ASM1166 and the card is available in a PCIe 3.0 x 2 for double buss access Bandwidth.

Be careful using 6 connected devices because the total bandwidth for the device is limited to 1GBPS. If you run a parity check will 6 drives all at the same time, your speed will be limited to 150MBPS per drive, which is much slower than what they can actually do. No config need for unraid, simply plug & play. Fantastic.

started failing within 3 days....initialy had issues detecting on one port, by day 3 the only way for both ports to detect was a reboot, by day 5 port 2 had stopped working 75-90% of the time on reboot, by day 7 port 2 was dead and port 1 was having hotswap issues and failing to register a drive 75% of the time, by day 11 port 1 was failing to detect 7-10 times on hotswap and 50/50 on a rebootsteaming pile of garbage!
