About this item

  • Hex bushing for connecting two pipes or with different diameters
  • Male National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads on one end and female NPT threads on the other for connecting pipes with different ends
  • Brass for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability
  • Operating temperatures range from -53 to 121 degrees C (-65 to 250 degrees F)
  • Meets specifications ASTM B584 and ASME/ANSI B16 for quality assurance
  • These fittings contain lead and are not allowed by federal law to be installed for potable water use in the U.S.A. and its territories.

The Anderson Metals hex bushing pipe fitting is made of brass and has a male National Pipe Taper (NPT) threaded connection and a female NPT threaded connection. This hex bushing fitting connects two pipes with different diameters and has a hexagonal head for an increased bearing surface when adjusting the fitting with a wrench. It has male NPT threads on one end and female NPT threads on the other for connecting to a female and a male threaded pipe or fitting. The NPT threads create a tighter seal than straight threads. This fitting is made of brass for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability. Brass can be connected to copper, brass, plastic, aluminum, and welded steel. The operating temperatures for this fitting range from -53 to 121 degrees C (-65 to 250 degrees F). This fitting meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) B584 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)/American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B16 specifications for quality assurance.

Pipe fittings are components used for connecting, terminating, controlling flow, and changing the direction of piping in many different industries. When purchasing pipe fittings, consider the application, as this will affect material type, shape, size, and required durability. Fittings are available threaded or unthreaded, in many shapes, styles, sizes, and schedules (pipe wall thickness).

Anderson Metals manufactures brass fittings, valves, and pipe nipples. The company, founded in 1951, is headquartered in Kansas City, MO.

Did exactly what I needed reduced a 1 1/2 inch NPT female fitting to 1 inch female NPT. I then used a 1 inch barb fitting to connect my log splitter pump inlet hose.

I finished installing a DIY propane black pipe distribution system for my cabin. I needed to adapt a pressure test gauge that fit a 3/4" pipe to 1/2" as all my pipes are 1/2". This Anderson Metals Brass Threaded Pipe Fitting did the job. A few wraps of teflon tape with a little pipe dope and I had a leak free pressure test gauge that now fits my 1/2" pipe. The system is holding pressure so I'm pleased with the project and with the Anderson Metals threaded pipe reducer.Knowing that the propane piping holds pressure, I can now call in for the green tag inspection.

I have been using a lot of NPT brass fittings recently. After some experimentation, I have settled on using Anderson fittings whenever possible. I purchased several of these in three different sizes and all functioned perfectly. That is not to say that the finish was perfect (it was not..) or that the casting was perfectly centered (it was not..). However, the fitting threads were well machined and were well within specification for NPT. I have had many fittings over the past year that failed miserably because the threads were not cut to specification. Some were difficult to start, others were undersized to the point they would not tighten leak-free. These Anderson fittings do not have those problems.Nicely machined, good threads, good fit to spec., no leaks...If there is a down-side, it is in the casting, boring process where the center hole can end up slightly misaligned with the HEX head. I don't find this to be a problem, but I am NOT using these fittings for a purpose that requires great aesthetic value. Another question that arises is the "value" of the fitting related to its price. I have come to the conclusion that this is something to be determined by each user. I find these fittings to be somewhat expensive. Probably more so than necessary. However, they are no more expensive than any others and less expensive than some. So.... "Value" is determined by individual perception....If you need a good quality fitting that you can generally count on to fit and work like it is supposed to... You should find these to be a good match. If you require perfection in the "look" of the fitting (the "form"..) as well as the function, then you may find a different product a better match. They work for me.... And I am overtly particular about most things.Four stars for a good product that does the job without much fanfare. If the cost was slightly less and the form was slightly cleaner it would be five stars.

Exactly what we needed in our water barrel. It came with a plastic spigot which lasted 1 winter, no surprise there I suppose. So we wanted to replace it, and the pipe fitting was cracked too. So this was the correct size and should last for many years, along with the brass spigot we got from the local big box hardware store. Delivery was timely too.
