It's a classic stand. My second from Hamilton. The previous one had two pegs for doubling, but I'm taking this on the road and I don't need to double this time around. This comes in 3 parts. The stand screws into the base with a retaining screw. It's very secure. I think better than a folding design. The bottom fork also screws into one of two holes on the stand, depending on what sax is used.I noticed that some people would prefer a stand with clamps. In the home environment or when only using one horn, that's probably better, but if you're doubling and have literally seconds to switch, a free-standing one is better. You only get one chance to get it right. Pros also work with, hopefully, considerate people and have their instruments insured!! Many theaters also carry insurance that covers their musicians.

Just got it, so I have no long term experience with it. But my first impressions are thus; it's stable, even on carpet. The pads are nice and soft which in turn keeps the horn from sliding around on it. (I have a Tenor Sax on it). If you need a more stable stand IMO you better buy one that bolts to the floor! Great price, great stand!

There is nothing actually wrong with this stand but the fact that it is JUST THAT.. A stand. There is not true protection here I am afraid every time I sit my alto on it that it will slip off and I watch it a few seconds to make sure it doesn't. I bought me a Hercules since then and I feel much better with the auto grips locking mechanism. Now I can sit me sax down without worrying about the slip. If you don't have a lot of people around your horn and just want somewhere to sit it so that you don't have to keep taking it out of the case and assempllling it this stand is fine. If you have kids or there is going to be a lot of traffic in the area where your horn is on the stand then I recommend one with the Auto Grip technology or equivalent (the Hercules is also more travel friendly, as it can be broken down and put in a bag.). Below I have attached two pictures one of my sax one this stand and one with the Hercules just so that you guys can see the difference hope it helps.

I bought this stand for my 11-your-old son who is a beginner clarinet and Tenor saxophone player. As he started practicing moire consistently, we found it to be very uncomfortable to keep assmbling and dis-assembling his instruments. This inexpensive and practical stand makes home practice so much easier. The stand is steady, does not wobble and does not take a lot of room so it fits our music room very well. I am very happy with the purchase.

This stand is very robust and well made. The tubular materials are thick and will not be easily damaged with relatively rough handling. My Alto sax rests comfortably on the stand, with the thumb rest of the sax seated on the lower curved padded bar, but it has to engage the curved, padded support bar, to the right or left of center, since the vertical post to which the curved support bar is attached, does not allow any clearance, to center the sax's thumb rest on the stand. So your sax will orient a bit to a sideways position on the stand, right or left. One feature is that the stand's curved support bar can be raised or lowered, by way of two different mounting holes, through which the threaded back side of the support bar can be detached and re-inserted into the upper or lower hole. I preferred the lower of the two holes for my Alto, which allows the upper neck of the sax to be in closer contact with the top curved bar. Using the lower mounting position for the bottom bar also lowers the center of gravity for the sax on the stand, making it a bit more stable. The top of the upper curved support bar is 18" off the floor, when in use.If I were to change anything on this very good stand, it would be to decrease the footprint of the tripod base, in a way that would minimize any "tripping hazard", in tight spaces, on stage or wherever you are displaying the sax.....maybe by switching to a flat round metal platform for the vertical components of the stand to attach to, since the tripod arms extend out about 10" from center. On the other hand, I realize the "folding" tripod design is obviously the best for portability since this stand is very compact when collapsed down. A round detachable disc base could still be 10" in diameter for stability, but the low profile, of a flat disc on the ground, would eliminate the tripping hazard, which could knock the instrument off of the stand, if someone happened to carelessly kick one of the legs when passing by.Also, the flute or clarinet peg (removable) is a nice additional amenity, although I will leave mine detached since I play neither instrument. Overall an excellent and well made product.

This stand is inexpensive, yet provides a comfortably solid hold on your sax. I have a tenor and alto - and the stand works equally well for both. I tried to use the flute/clarinet peg to hold a trumpet (it didn't really work - but I can't fault the product for that). The flute peg unscrews easily when not in use.In sum, this is inexpensive and secure, and the saxophone looks great on display.

I got this stand for my saxophone and I was really excited about it! It came in and I unpacked it and it works great! Now I play soprano sax as well and wrapped a rag around the flute peg it comes with and made a nice soprano peg seeing that it was too small. Also, with the alto on the stand, the stand becomes just a little unstable for comfort cause having it fall back would be awful! And with the soprano on it as well, it was worse! So I got some fishing weights and wrapped up with duck tape and and made a little weight tube to put in the front leg of the stand and that fixed everything! So overall this is a must buy! $16 for a stand... You really cannot too that! And it works absolutely perfectly with the weights in so if you don't have fishing weights, find something heavy, small, and won't move much!GREAT STAND!
