If you look closely at the picture in the listing you will notice a total of 4 retaining rings for the pair of cords, unfortunately there are only two in the package, so this means you can’t secure only use one of the cord assemblies.

These are very well built and look really good hanging above my aquarium. I am using these to increase the lighting for my 40 gallon fish tank. The white color blends nicely with my walls. The length allows for a variety of uses and placements.

So if you're using this to either hang a pendant lamp, know that you'll need to buy another screw on ring, because the threads do not have a 'platform' for the shade to hang from or rest on. You'll need one above and below it to keep it secure, otherwise it'll just be floating. Otherwise they're great.
