This set is perfect for cutting branches. We just used it a couple of weeks ago. Worked great! Our branches were pretty high up in the tree and this worked like a charm! It’s important to note-everything actually fits back into the kit! That was also a plus!!

a pretty complete kit to cut down those branches that are just out of reach. you'll have to supply your own sand or rocks for the pouches you throw over the limbs.my only complaint is i wish it came with a pouch instead of the small hard-sided case. once you take everything out and use it it's pretty much impossible to get it all compressed enough to get it back into the case. the included paracord, after it's stretched a bit and frayed a little, just isn't going to roll back up as nice. so i ended up ditching the box and stuffing everything into a 1 gallon ziplock bag. oh the included gloves are pretty thin and one tore just trying it on my meaty hands.also would be nice if the included instruction card had some useful knots for tying the cords to the pouches and hooks. fortunately i know a few and they worked fine.much cheaper getting this kit and doing the work yourself than hiring someone. expect the chain saw to bind up as you pull it. you'll get a good workout pulling. definitely wear eye protection. and don't stand directly under whatever you're cutting.

Purchased this High Limb Rope Saw to cut back some 4" diameter branches coming in from the apartments behind our house. These are about 20 feet up in the air so getting to them on our ladders is not possible.Long story short, it was not difficult getting the rope and then saw into place in about 2 minutes. I got over confident and started sawing away by myself at about a 30 degree angle to the branch, effectively cutting across both the top and bottom of the branch. Within about a minute I was about 70% through the limb when it split down the branch across the top, dropping the tips of the branch to the ground, but leaving it hanging at the cut with the bottom of the chain pinched deeply in the branch. No amount of pulling and fiddling around with the ropes would free the chain. Actually when I pulled hard on the rope attached to the bottom, the knot eventually slipped free so I only had the top rope left attached to the chain. After an hour with my neighbors watching, I gave up and used an electric chain saw to cut up much of the tips of the branch resting on the ground. Amazingly, two days later, I came home, looked out the back window and saw the entire brand on the ground! The three had finally given up the branch at the cut point! At that point I was easily able to retrieve the rest of the saw which I placed in a bag with oil.ADVICE: 1. Tie good knots onto the chainsaw so it won't slip loose! 2. Use two people to make the final cut across the TOP of the branch! This will avoid an inevitable pinch across the bottom. I would start with an angled cut across the bottom and top, but switch to just the top of the branch (2 people, standing opposite and far apart) after a few seconds. This saw does cut fast and deep! Think carefully about your angle of attach before getting started. Unless you are good at climbing trees, it's very possible to get stuck.

Originally got this for my offroading toolkit, then decided to take down a rotting limb that's been hanging over my driveway and worrying me for awhile but was too high for my pole saw even on a ladder. We cut as close to the trunk as possible so ended up sawing through 10inches or so of mostly live wood. Some observations:- 1.75lbs seemed to be the sweet spot for the weight. It's fairly easy to throw and get over a limb with less weight. What's difficult if its too light, however, is then having enough weight to let gravity overcome abrasion so the rope will slide down to a height to let you grab the side your threw over. I was throwing right at about the 25 foot height limit of this thing and the 1.75lbs worked best after trial and error.- two people is a must if you're cutting larger diameter. The more curve in the blade the more likely to bind. My nightmare scenario was cutting the limb 1/2 way-ish then having the saw bind on me such that I made things even more dangerous with this half sawn limb hanging over my driveway. Using two people solved the problem.- its work for sure. if you're not an outdoorsy type used to doing your own manual labor, or a fitness type who works out, you're going to need to really pace yourself especially in the heat. We do all our own yardwork AND workout regularly. We had no issues with the cutting but most definitely felt it in back and shoulders next couple days.- be safe. there's no way to undercut, use a come-along or otherwise get a clean fall with predictable direction. this is very basic. you cut, the limp starts to snap, cracks and then falls. you run or move away quickly when you hear the snapping turns to cracking. suggest practicing the running away part both in terms of safe direction and dropping the handle (seriously). the person helping me instinctively held on the to handle and almost got an arm yanked off.
