Not a bad setup. Does the job quickly and well designed.

This item works well if you understand how things operate. You must mind the angles you are pulling from and how the blade is angled across the limb. Concentrate and be deliberate but have a partner who is able to "flow" with you rather than flailing back and forth, fighting each other. And don't bottom out the blade with each stroke. One person use is ill-advised for what should be obvious reasons(standing directly under/near a falling limb) and because the ropes should be activated from further apart to prevent jamming. If it starts to jam, don't just hang on it or brutally jerk the ends. Slow down and think about it and then correct the angle and spread the ropes even further from each other - probably about 90 degrees from each other. The ropes length are limited so you can only go so wide but certainly don't wrap the chain around from one side - it will jam when the limb begins to sag pinching the blade. I have seen 1-star reviews because "it takes work", "rope fell off first use", "gets stuck", "I can't throw that high", etc. None of this is the saw's fault. If you do not check and secure the factory knots, keep the teeth away from the ropes, and things like that, and/or expect effortless magic, then I suspect few things in your life work for you and you hire most things out. This is likely the best. If you are not already a conscientious, DIY-type in many other areas of life, now and with this tool isn't the time to start. This item works well because it is sharp from the box, is two-sided(the one-sided blades are a pain), and has everything you need except some weight in the bags. Again, retie the knots and if you don't know how, google how to tie about any type of knot and you'll be fine. It's a somewhat precision process that takes some forethought and patience - not brute force.Good tool.

Did everything as advertised. With 2 people easily cuts through hard to get at branches. Yet to try it with only one operator.

After waiting a few weeks for this rope saw kit it was put to work today. Several 5cm to 15cm branches in excess of 5m high were taken down. The low profile double sided double direction saw chain makes it easy to pull with minimal binding. The 8m paracord was just the right length for the task at hand. I used a sock filled with sand stuffed in one of the two throw bags provided. We used two persons however an extra length of cord and a pulley could be used for single person operation. It was a little more expensive than some but am overall happy.

This rope saw worked better than I expected, judging from the other reviews. I'm sure that it helped having a second person to hold the other rope, so that we could saw the branch from a shallower angle, preventing it from getting stuck. We also happened to use the saw on a day where the humidity was very high, so the wood was softer and cut quite easily.I've never used a rope saw before, but had to purchase this one in order to cut some branches that would have been too dangerous with a ladder and conventional chainsaw. From what I've found online, rope saws are also generally cheaper than a pole extension for a chainsaw. Anyway, my brother and I used this to cut two branches that had split off the trunk of an old mulberry tree after it was struck by lightning. These branches were about 20 ft. above the ground, with the first branch being about 5 in. thick, as seen in the photo, and the second branch being about 6 in. thick. Standing far apart, and keeping the rope in tension, we sawed through the 5 in. branch very quickly, in about 5 minutes. The 6 in. branch was more difficult, taking 12 minutes because the chain kept getting stuck. Whenever this happened, it helped to whip the rope upward on either end to get it unstuck, but I imagine this would be much more difficult if the branch were higher.I think this is a good product, but it is tricky to work with, and if the branch is more than 1 in. thick, I wouldn't try cutting it on my own, because it will get stuck much more frequently. Also, if the branches you need to cut are more than 25-30 ft. high, you'll probably need longer ropes than the ones this saw comes with.

We used this rope saw to cut the ‘tops’ off of dying spruce & poplar. (It is good practice to remove dead tree tops.) Neighbours stopped by and ‘volunteered’ to help!? 😜😃🤪Ha ha! - If you try one of these: its a handy idea to use a (sling shot) device to launch your ‘line’ over / around the tree. I ‘also’ found that attaching small markers (ribbons) on each end of the cutting chain, makes it easier to know when to stop and pull the other way.

Below is my original review and I still love this rope saw, even though mine broke the other day after two months use. I just ordered another one, which I would have been happy to have paid for (it is that useful), but I was really pleased to learn that a free replacement would be sent.I have a lot more trees and high limbs than most people, so I use saw a lot more than average user would use this saw. In my case, probably ten hours a week or more, every week, and frequently I am using to saw large diameter limbs. I used this saw so often, I was surprised that I did not have to sharpen it (with the included sharpening tool. The saw rarely got stuck, except on larger limbs, which happens with a standard chainsaw, when weight of the limb pinches on the blade. This generally happens at the end of the cut, and there is an easy work-around. Take another throw line and throw over limb towards the end of the limb, then pull down with the line a bit to take pressure off of the chain. - Be extra careful when you do this, that you don’t pull limb down on yourself, as often the limb is almost cut through when blade gets stuck. - Also, ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET WHEN DOING TREE WORK. Stuff happens. On a lighter note, this saw is fun to use. Once you get it over the limb you are supposed to do long pulls to saw. You have one rope with hand loop in your left hand, and similar rope in your right hand. I stand back at a distance where I can swing whole body from hips and swing shoulders in a continuous swimming motion (left hand over, swing, right hand over, etc.) It is a full body work out and surprisingly fun to do. Don’t go to fast though as you want consistent, smooth pulls to avoid saw sticking. You should also consider the following items (available on Amazon), for getting saw to limb and also to have a second throw line:1. Weaver Leather Arborist Replacement Polyethylene Throw Line , Yellow2. Weaver Leather Bullet Throw Weight (8 oz.).If you look under my reviews, you will see reviews for both of these items.Side note - I attached the bullet weight, with about 15-20 feet of throw line, to one end of one of the rope saw hand loop so rope saw is always ready for next throw, yet does not interfere with my sawing as I just leave that line on ground while I am doing the sawing.Final observation - I have not needed to cut higher than the amount of line which the saw line comes with, but I imagine you could cut much higher limbs as long as you could attach the ends of existing saw line to two longer ropes, one on each side. I think the only real limit is the amount of available rope you have attach to the line.___________Original ReviewI was surprised by how effective this saw was. It is not cheap, but it is a heck of a lot cheaper than having tree company come to remove high limbs. I just purchased, and have used heavily on three different days. If it broke tomorrow, I would feel I got my money’s worth. The saw is two chain is two sided, so you do not have to wonder whether you will get the cutting side to the correct position. The line attached to the saw was strong enough to handle as much force as I could generate. The saw handled limbs up to almost twelve inches in diameter, and I expect it will handle larger limbs when I went to expend the energy required to cut them. The cuts are clean and leave a nice flush edge on the branch, which is my goal. This saw has a lot of strong reviews and it appears they are well deserved.
