I needed to record some audio and get rid of some of the reverb in the room, try to insulate and block out external noise, while assisting with the acoustics of the room. These panels are really thin. There was no noise reduction or sound insulation. It did help with the acoustics and reduced the reverb. This is a very good and effective product, for someone on a budget. If you're looking sound treat a room, and really reduce the external noise, you will need to get thicker panels. These helped the audio quality of my recordings, so I will definitely recommend it to anyone.

Right out of the box these are very thing. I did not do the water soak method to help expand them, I instead chose to leave them out for a few days. The photos attached to this review were taken a few days after letting them sit. They don't include any adhesive, so I found a listing for 3M adhesive tabs. They do seem to dampen sound very slightly. With the 3M tabs they were easy to install. Quality and durability seem a bit on the low side.

Good sound absorbing properties for a acoustic foam of only 1” thickness. I used spray contact cement as these do not have adhesive backing. I used this product inside my speakers. Huge difference. Very good in absorbing reflections.

Works as advertised. Its thicker than the colored ones that you see floating out on the internet and they don't offer the sound absorption that these do.

I used these wedges to add some style and dimension to my new String Swing guitar rack and they worked pretty well. After finishing I tossed some random guitars up there to take a picture for you to see what the tiles look like in context. Two important things to note:* First, as others have mentioned, and as the packaging states, they arrive sealed and smashed together in a plastic bag, and they take ~48 hours to expand to the full size. I've attached a picture where you can see the difference, and even that's not as extreme as it really is as the picture was taken like an hour after opening the bag. So if your plan is to hang these on a weekend, then you really need to get them much earlier in the week so they have time to expand.* Buy more than you think you need. I ended up buying these three times because the first 6 I ordered were a test to see if I liked them, which I did, and then second batch of 6 had 1 tile that looked worse than the others and never fully expanded. I needed 12 tiles for my project, so I ended up buying three 6 packs, so 18 total. Of those 18 there was only the 1 that looked genuinely bad, but there were very slight imperfections in a couple of others that were easy to hide when hanging them. If you're picky about these things, I would definitely buy an extra pack for safety and then just select the best of the lot.I was originally going to use a spray adhesive to attach them to the wall, but I got paranoid about leaving torn pieces of foam stuck to the wall if the project didn't workout. I ended up using the spray adhesive to stick a piece of regular paper from my printer to the back, and then using double sided tape to attach it to the wall (see picture). I had used double sided tape for a different project before and it worked great, but I wasn't sure the double sided tape would bond to the foam long term, hence the paper intermediary. In case you're worried, they are in fact 12"x12" exactly. The rack is 48" across and 4 of them was the exact width. If you're concerned at all, it's fairly easy to squish them up against each other a bit tighter and gain some leeway. If I was to do anything differently, I think I would have painted the wall behind the tiles a black or dark grey because hanging them up perfectly trying to cover every single hint of white AND still keep the lines in a straight grid was challenging. A little paint just in the middle where the lines converge would have gone a long ways. Even still, I hadn't taken into consideration the triangle portions at the top giving a view underneath the guitar rack, leaving me with some clear white spots if you look for them (see picture). I might also do a tad bit more prep work defining the "sides" of my grid with tape or pencil or something to making lining it all up easier. So while I listed some caveats above, at the end of the day, when you take the price into consideration, I would pretty highly recommend these. Whether they offer any level of actual soundproofing I have no idea, but visually they look great. I like the look of them so much in fact, that I think I'm actually going to expand the guitar rack and buy more of them.

They took some time to figure out how to get them to attach and stay attached but that's on me, not the panels I suppose. I stuck the first 24 on some pink Styrofoam panels and hung those panels on the wall with normal picture hanging hooks. The second batch I attached to a folding privacy screen, so it can be easily positioned at any time, or just folded up and stored when not needed.I used spray adhesive on some and double sided tape on others, the ones with the spray adhesive are rock solid, but the ones with double sided tape fall off regularly. If you are attaching them to a flat surface that you don't mind damaging in the event that they wont be attached forever , use spray adhesive, the stronger the better. The panels themselves work exactly as expected, the echo is completely gone, which makes videos calling for work and school so much better for hard of hearing partner. As far as people complaining about them not puffing up, I threw about 10 at a time in the dryer for 10 minutes and they puffed up perfectly. All in all I'm quite happy with them and I'm sure ill be buying more in the future.
