PT-100 Instructions
1. Unscrew the speaker located on the base of the unit.
NOTE: The base also houses the ON-OFF switch and powers on the unit when the speaker is removed.
2. The barrel of the device houses a DC transmitter and male F connector push-on fitting. Attach this
fitting to a female F connector port.
3. Touch the speaker to the end of each cable. When the correct cable is found, you will hear an audible tone.
4. When finished, screw the speaker into the base to power off the unit.
How to Read Results
1. If the cable condition is good, the LED will illuminate and the Speaker will emit a tone.
2. If there is an open circuit, the LED will be off and the Speaker will not emit a tone.
3. If there is a short circuit, the LED will be on, and the Speaker will not emit a tone.
4. If testing on a cable with Voltage over 4V, the LED will be off, and the Speaker will emit a tone.
Note that the pitch will change and the volume will increase in this case.

Like the fact that you can actually turn it off when not using instead of killing the battery

This tracer helped me locate the correct coax wire in a bundle of a dozen wires in my basement's equipment room. Keep in mind that this will only work on *properly terminated* coax wire with the F-type male connector and NOT on a bare cable with an exposed copper wire. Your cables will need connectors crimped on the end of your wire with the shielding contacting the connector and the copper wire the proper length in the inside of the connector. So I plugged one end of this tracer in to the F-type female connector in the upstairs bedroom, and the other end screwed into the male connector on a coax cable in the basement, and BOOM, beep! Cable located and confirmed!

There was a real jumble of cables in my attic. I couldn’t even find the coaxial input from outside until I got this tool. I was able to organize everything and send a signal to a bedroom that had a terminal, but no idea which cable went to it.

My camper came with all the coax unhooked. There were like 7 unlabeled connections behind the radio and DVD player. With this, I was able to put the tone generator on each wire and walk around testing different outlets with the other part until I had identified and labeled each wire. Now all my TV’s work. This job has been impossible in the past. I didn’t know this existed and wish I had found it years ago. Now it’s in the toolbox for future repairs.

It works very well but with no instructions included I had to figure out how it works. It took a while to do this with another piece of coax. Simple instructions would make it much easier.

Bought a bunch of these over the years for work. Very handy when you need to do a quick tone check. Unfortunately the last 2 I ordered were defective. I am going to move to another brand due to the speaker not working properly or not getting connectivity directly with speaker from conductor on pen.

I’ve always had one of these since I’m all around Tech and when toning or troubleshooting a single line this makes your life a lot easier. But I just got one on August 20th and it’s already broken. I’m guessing most likely the speaker but it didn’t even make it to three months. He’ll it didn’t even give me a chance to loose it, which is what happened to my previous ones. Just sucks that it didn’t even lasted at all. But good tool to have.
