The hex nipple fitting is a short length of pipe with threaded ends for connecting two same diameters threaded pipes, and it has a hexagonal section in the middle for an increased bearing surface when adjusting and tighting the fitting with a wrench.
This reducing fitting is made of 304 stainless steel for corrosion resistance, ductility at high temperatures, and low magnetic permeability.

Very poor quality, bought two and out of those, 3 male threads were improperly threaded. Would not seal. More scams from big red.

These stainless steel nipples are just the key if one ever needs it. It is non-toxic and suitable for potable water. The threadings are tapered and conform to NPT standards. The lips are smooth and should provide a watertight seal on the washer when fastening a hose line. Overall, a quality product.
