I had about 200 backup tapes (4mm, 8mm, etc.) over 15 years from SCSI drives but none of my current machines had a SCSI interface. This board worked perfectly on Linux and Omnios (Illumos) and I'm now in the process of cataloging these tapes in preparation of archiving the important data while I can.

This card worked perfectly in a Dell XPS 510 running Ubuntu 10.10. I just needed to get some data off an old SCSI hard drive (Fukitsu 146.8 GB 10,000 RPM Wide U320) and this card did the trick. I didn't need to install any drivers or do any configuration, I just inserted the card, rebooted and copied the data off. Very simple procedure.

I needed a U320 SCSI controller after my old motherboard with on-board SCSI had died. The new board lacked such a controller. I searched for hours for a U320 card that didn't have the added cost of RAID, didn't cost $600 and didn't require my x16 PCI slot (I used the x4 slot) and wasn't limited to a regular PCI bus speed. LSI has made the on-board SCSI controllers on many of the motherboards I've used so I trust that this card should be just as reliable. This controller works fine in Ubuntu 9.10 x86-64 and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional.

This is a very good small form factor U320 HBA but suffers a lack of driver support for 32 bit versions of Windows XP and any version of Windows 7. The HBA can be made to function in Windows 7 using the Vista 32 and 64 bit drivers, but a quirk in the Vista drivers cause a long delay (5-8 minutes) during booting, even if you are not booting from the drives connected to the HBA. I corresponded with the LSI tech department and they have declared this tem to be end of life and do not anticipate providing any Windows 7 drivers at this time. LSI really dissappointed me with this decison especially since I use several of their products including a SCSI RAID controller that does function in Windows 7 using Vista/Server 2008 drivers. I'm sure someone will eventually hacjk the driver and figure out how to make it work. Consequently, I returned this item to Amazon. ATTO makes a Windows 7 supported HBA, it's expensive but may be the only recourse for those of us supporting U320 SCSI based systems.

I use this card on a Dell 2950, works great with Windows and Ubuntu. I am running about 8 DLT drives off of it, handles the thruput.

We are seeing sync at 80 instead of the expected 160 or 320 with an HP EH841A LTO3 inside a Dell PowerVault 110. Still the performance is ok. Also went round and round with LSI support until it was revealed a known issue with the SCSI Timeout parameter causing error code 11, RaidPort0 errors. Best to go into the card setup BIOS and move it from 10 sec to 30 sec right off the bat if you get this controller. All in all its functional, but just not getting warm fuzzies.
