I use a Roland TD17 kvx, and gigged using this mat (once with it so far), having previously used carpet tiles or carpet offcut. Advantages are that it is much lighter and more easily portable than using old carpet, it is also non-slip. It is about 0.5 cm thick and compresses under weight (of kit or your feet) but reverts to shape once the weight is removed. This coupled with material and surface texture probably aids the non-slip aspect. It is large enough for my td17, with room to spare, and you could use it with a conventional acoustic set up too. Drum pedal or shell hardware spikes would penetrate it, and you'd probably be better off use rubber feet on base drum stands. Too early for me to say how robust this is, probably ok if you are careful with it, but obviously depends on your circumstances and how often you'd gig it. Carry bag is "lightweight" and requires care as it feels as though the mesh part could tear, but with care it works fine. Two velcro straps wrap around the mat when folded to keep it stowed. These work fine, but are not attached to the mat, so likely to get lost.In action it looked good, was nice to use, nothing moved during a 2 hour set, so happy first time out.In summary, inexpensive, neat, lightweight, non-slip, but treat it nice for longevity I would say.

This is my second DrumFire mat. Bought one for the electronic kit at church to keep it from sliding all over the tile. Worked perfectly and has held up well for a year. Bought this one for my acoustic kit for gigs without a wood stage/floor. Plenty big enough for my whole kit and has held up well over half a dozen gigs where i have used it. I love that it is light and easily carried around vs some of the much heavier drum rugs that are also 5 or 6 times the price. Note: the spikes on drum pedals will eventually tear some holes in the mat, but it will take a LONG time before this thing is worn to the point of being unusable. And, for around $40, I can buy 5 or 6 of these for the price of one regular drum rug. Highly recommend it!

Love this mat. Can't see it lasting for 10 years or anything but it works great to keep the bass drum and pedals where they should be. Rolls up easily and comact, which is the main problem with most mats. Recommended but keep in mind you might have to buy a new one every few years if you are a gigging musician.

I finally replace my first one after 6 years of constant gigging, rehearsals in many different venues, garages. The mat is perfect on any surface, is non skid and really takes a beating. I still use the old one for my vocalist to stand on when playing on some hard floors. It also absorbs the sound of the kit, so it's really great in a lot of situations. The mat also makes it easy to "mark out your area" you'll need as everything from your kit fits on it. I have a rack system, so if you are using separate cymbal stands, the whole kit will still fit on the mat. Once you set it in place, it lets everyone see the space you will need. No more, no less.

This is an absolutely necessary element in any drummer's "emergency response kit." I keep a spare hi-hat clutch, bass drum spring, snare cord, and this little guy in the bottom of my hardware bag in case something goes wrong at a show. I have had to go to this mat more times than I care to admit when venues with non-carpeted floors tell you "we used to have a rug for the drums... I don't know where it went..."This mat will earn it's worth with you the first time that happens. It's small and compact, but folds out wide enough to get the essential footprints on one mat. The mat is ABSOLUTELY non-slip, and everything holds well. The mat is kind of soft and sticky, which means that after just one use, you'll notice that you've permanently left impressions with cymbal stand feet and possibly small holes with bass drum spurs. This mat is not for everyday use. That said, I will never leave for a gig without this mat in my bag, and when I destroy it (it'll probably take a year or three), I'll rush to buy a new one. The peace of mind gained by having this compact, lightweight non-slip mat is worth every cent, and when you find that you actually have to use it, you will not be disappointed.

This is just yoga mat material, and not the thickest yoga mat material out there, so you could use a couple of cheap yoga mats, but if you want it to be an all one piece and large enough (at 4 feet square) for most compact or electronic sets, then this is priced fairly.Your kick pedal/trigger/bass drum will not move away from your throne and neither will your hi hat. No spikes required, and if you do employ spikes they will go through and scratch the floor, so stay with the rubber feet on your gear.Besides working as designed, it also folds into the provided carrying bag very nicely, although its just as easy to roll it into a cylinder and throw it in the car.Because it is black, if you want to mark leg/pedal memory positions for a quicker set up at the gig, you need to use painters tape or a white china marker pencil or something similar. If they had made it gray, a black Sharpie would have done it.Prior to buying this I was cutting up the same old blue yoga mat for years and it kept a lot of stuff still, and saved the floor from many scratchy things, and shielded the floor from many a vibration. Despite this mat being the thinner variety it is more sensible to have a proper drum mat for the kit rather than cuttings. I almost went for an exercise equipment mat instead, but those are actually a bit too heavy to haul around and they are never 4 feet wide!

This Mat has served me very well. I find it works better than most carpet rugs/mats, at least for my drum. I had a pretty severed case of the sliding bass drum on any stage that was solid wood or something similar. Still, only very deep carpet could keep my bass drum stationary. I bought this mat the day after another drummer let me use his on a gig, I was that impressed with it (Especially when he told me how much it cost). With this mat down, your equipment is completely stationary.Only real problem i have with it is, that if you extend the spikes in the rubber grips on your bass drum legs, it can eat chunks out of the mat, but even without the spikes extended, it barely moves compared to hardwood. With the spikes out a tiny bit, they might put small holes in the mat, but i find that it makes a good guide for setting your bass drum down in the same spot every time. And your Bass Drum will not go anywhere.I also have never managed to roll the mat up tight enough to fit back in the tote bag it comes in, and also broke one of the velcro straps, but its so small that i dont bother to strap it up. I just roll it up and throw it in my hardware bag. This Mat is a killer deal considering the price, the size, and how well it works.
