Yeah, these things are very expensive and I wouldn't expect to see one just lying around in uncle Jim's garage sale, but there are three reasons for the price:1) Name brand. Pig/Newpig, they've been around forever, whoop-di-doo.2) Nobody else (to my knowledge) makes these. They're kind of special purpose and you only get them when you "have to" have them, which brings us to...3) Meets "the requirements". Anybody that spends too much time hanging out with OSHA and/or EPA inspector types knows that there can be all kinds of fun little codes and rules that are supposed to be followed. Features like sealing/lockable lids are truly wonderful for dealing with "must be kept sealed when not in use" type stuff.Steep cost aside the burpless feature works perfectly and the screen made for it is awesome for finding extra hardware, loose change and lost tools. It also does great for draining small filters while closed so you don't have to babysit them and if you're going to be using it for the smelly stuff, why wouldn't you want it to close up tight?Great product and I highly recommend it if you have the need for it and funding to spare. Newpig also makes bigger ones that can make draining even large drain pans and filters (without breaking any rules) really easy.

Bought this for our outside above ground oil storage container. Had a plastic one that someone ripped open, so figured this would be a better option. First of all, if you lock this, anyone with a pair of pliers can easily remove one nut and it's open to the wild. Grinded down all the hinges and fasteners a little and tack welded them for the added security, now the only way is to cut it open :)
