Nice cutter tool, but, size is .080 larger than 1/2”. Had to mill it down to fit holder.

It's hard to find anything to criticize about it. Maybe the insert could be held more rigidly with another piece but then you would lose clearance in smaller bores. It does the job.

I run a small machine shop as my business and I was running on a Saturday where Monday was a holiday. I broke my threading bar and I wouldn't be able to even order another until Tuesday, The job was high priority so I thought I would see if Amazon carried the Vardex I needed. They don't but they do have bars like this one. Being desperate I ordered it with free next day delivery although I didn't expect success from such a cheap tool. To my surprise it worked well and got me out of a jam. I don't expect it to be a long term tool but in an emergency it did the job.The bar is listed as 0.500" dia. but is was 13mm so I needed to turn it to size. It turned easily enough so it wasn't a big deal.

This boring bar did a fine job on several different thread pitches in aluminum. I have not tried it on steel yet, but it should do OK. The only comment I have is on the shank diameter, specified as 1/2". If you look closely at the photo of the tip, you can see the neck where the 5/8" shank shrinks to 1/2" near the tip. This was not a problem for me, but trying to cut internal threads on a deep 5/8" hole might not work out. It barely fit into my 250-series QCTP block but it did fit and work fine. In the real world, the larger shank improves rigidity so I like the concept. I would buy this again.

Perfect for what we needed. Not sure how long the inserts will last but for the price, it's still a better deal than the expensive versions.
