The Lute-kulele (TM) by Roosebeck, is one of the sweetest sounding ukuleles in our collection and is ideally suited for classical and fingerstyle music. It's design is based upon the Renaissance Lute which was prevalent in Europe in the 16th and 17th century, This Tenor-sized instrument is based upon a 430 mm (17 inches) scale and features six strings. The second (E) and third (C) strings are doubled providing a rich full and balanced tone. It is played like any normal 4-string ukulele.

It features a European spruce soundboard with the famous Leonardo Knot rosette which was a favorite of many Renaissance lute makers. The back is made in the traditional manner of lute-making and is made of alternating staves of walnut and lacewood (Platanus orientalus). The neck and pegbox are solid walnut and features a cattle-bone nut with a width of 37 mm (1 1/2 inch). An end-pin strap button is standard. SPECIAL NOTE ON STRINGS:There is no warranty on strings.

Tried to tune because it arrived horribly unturned. I hardly moved a peg and a string snapped, tried to resting, snapped. Tried to restring again, bridge slipped off. Just nice display at this point.

This is a very fun instrument to play. I am new to ukulele, but its been fun learning to strum chords and just have fun with it. It is a little challenging to tune, but if you have prior experience with friction pegs you should be okay. One thing I was a little disappointed with is the strings, the A string broke while I was tuning it for the first time and I'm pretty sure that it was the strings fault, not mine as it broke very very easily. I am getting some D'Addario carbon strings for it so that should make the sound a bit better, but overall I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Tldr: beautiful & unique lutekulele, needs new strings and tuning pegs. Not for professionals or very new beginners.I thought some of the negative reviews about playability were just musicians being stuck up, but this really is not a great instrument. The strings and tuning pegs are absolute trash, you will have to restring to make it playable. At this price point, I feel like it should at least have some decent strings. That said, the instrument itself is gorgeous aesthetically. It's a nice size (roughly ukulele sized) and easy to hold. I definitely think it could be pleasantly playable with a bit of work. I'm sure the bowl alone took an enormous amount of work and skill to construct.Since we are not professional musicians by a long shot, we will be keeping it and getting new strings and pegs. I won't pretend to be an expert on any instruments, but I wouldn't recommend this one to a professional or stage performer, nor someone who is a complete beginner.

This is a really nice instrument, but for what it costs I was honestly expecting better. I like the way it sounds, but the strings it comes with are kinda meh in their quality. Also, I should mention that the friction pegs this thing has are TERRIBLE, and are not fitted properly at all. You *will* struggle trying to tune this thing without the pegs letting go and loosening the strings entirely.I will likely be modifying this instrument by replacing the friction pegs with modern tuning knobs as well as replacing the strings with better ones, but for what it cost me I don't think this should have been necessary.Otherwise, it has good sound, it looks pretty, and it's extremely light.

I love the style and sound of this instrument but they really should use better frets. They are literally bits of string tied around the fingerboard and while the style may look cool, it feels a little cheap. Otherwise it's a wonderful instrument. I swapped out the G4 for a G3 and it has more of a baroque sound.

I’m thrilled with my beautiful Roosebeck Tenor Lute-Kulele Ukulele Variegated – Walnut. With a clear resonant bright sound, lightweight wooden construction, elegant symmetrical rosette, lute-like structure and ukulele configuration, the instrument is a pleasure to play and a joy to hear. The beauty of the alternating panels of tan and brown wood on the back is striking. I’ve received comments such as, “Wow! That's a beautiful instrument,” “A work of art,” “Amazing workmanship!” “What a beauty!” With a durable black padded case, a simple owner’s guide, strings already strung, and even a pick, the package was complete. The very sturdy cardboard box everything came in and the ample bubble wrap inside protected everything well. I look forward to many years of plucking, strumming, and chilling with my new instrument.
