The Sylvan Rope Ascender is essential tree climbing gear. The clamp is a light yet sturdy and reliable tool for use with an ascending rope designed for climbing and mountaineering activities under normal weather conditions. Make sure you have it in your tree climbing kit! The Sylvan Rope Ascender is only one section of the climbing gear safety chain and must be used together with compatible safety equipment. The purpose of the rock-climbing gear clamp is to minimize the risk of falling while hunting, climbing, or mountaineering. Tree workers can also benefit from this as part of the arborist equipment.

I bought this as a gift for an avid climber in the family. The quality feels solid, and the design looks well-made. And t works great for positioning and hanging, though he mentioned it’s important to have the right rope diameter. Apparently, if the rope is too small, it might not perform as well and could slip. Overall pleased with it and it gets regular use.For the price, it seems like a solid option, and has been reliable so far, especially if you’re just starting out or looking for a backup ascender.

I got this as an extra safety mechanism to my saddle hunting kit to clip my harness onto a secondary safety rope. The build qualty is excellent, and the cable hanger is solid. I drop tested it off a beam in the garage and it provided immediate lockup as expected.

My initial tests were great with this. I'm using it on my lineman’s rope in my saddle setup and it us drastically easier than the prusik knot. The quality seems great and well built.

Good value for an ascender. Much easier to use than a prusik knot. But it's critical to use the proper sized climbing rope with it to work properly.

Seems well built. It was a little smaller than I thought it would be from the description and what it’s for. I’m not really familiar with climbing gear and sort of ordered this more out of curiosity and “possible use” than an actual need. I could see myself using this as an assist while hanging lights in my trees to keep me from falling but not sure what else I might use it for. It looks like a legitimate tool for someone that would use it properly.

I ordered this because I am putting together a second set of equipment for saddle hunting for my son. I already have the ascender everyone recommends and it was twice as expensive as this one... and I am not sure why to be honest as this one seems just as good. If you have ever hunted with a saddle stand, you know how much more convenient these ascenders can be compared to the prusik knot. This is a great ascender. Just make SURE you have the correct diameter rope for it: as with any ascender, if you go too small you might have a really bad time.

I was excited to try the Sylvan brand “Rope Ascender PRO”, but had mixed results so far and am not sure if there’s any place for it in my go-to climbing systems. For several tests with this as a sole ascender it held my weight and let me go up a couple pulls but then started slipping and I went right back to the ground. It happened without fail every time. It’s probably impossible to recover confidence in an ascender after that.A day or two later I go out to a small tree with a variety of linesman ropes and I don’t think it slipped on any of those during lean tests OR while leaning until I was fully suspended OR when kicking my feet up and then bouncing a little and hanging. … huh... Performed great that day, but just shortening and hanging, NOT attempting to ascend with it.So idk. I’m not going to have this in a position where it’s my only ascender or my only backup, which means maybe this will work for a chest ascender to maintain rope positioning but not depend on? Idk. That’s as far as I’ve got so far. I think this is at best a novelty accessory status item that only gets used when I don’t need it for what it’s for.My main climbing line is Samson Predator 11mm (11.4?). I did just get a 13mm static line for rigging so maybe I’ll try using it as an ascender on that rope once subzero temps go away. My linesman ropes are a variety of diameters and I don’t know offhand.I think regardless of how any further use goes I’d have to recommend getting a more aggressive style of tooth unless you have some reason to buy this style, but I can’t recommend this ascender with this tooth pattern for any purpose give it’s performance.I’m glad I got this through vine, but super bummed it worked out this way.If my experience with this product improves with further use I’ll add an update to this review.

I am new to rope climbing and have never used something like this before. When I got it the instructions are not very clear at all so I had to look online to even see how to use the device. What I found out is that there is little documentation about this product, and I think the reason is, is that is a clone of another, much more popular device called the Ropeman1. When I searched for that one, I got plenty of videos showing how to use it. So if anyone is looking for tutorials, try searching for that. It also looks extremely similar. This one does seem to be very high quality materials, so I have no concern there, however the price is almost as high as the original device. Overall I think something like this makes rope climbing much less of a hassle because it allows you to not have to use a "Prusik" knot, which can take longer to ascend than using an ascender like this.
