The plastic backing is part of the whole thing to keep it from digging into the body so much. That's why it's a bit thinner. But with the plastic is fine and solid. If you don't want the plastic backing you need to get the vintage kind that is a bit thicker and heavier. This socket plate fits most perfectly for Stratocaster or Telecaster project, mex or American. Each back plate with four-screw neck mounting, if you are replacing the neck with a Fender, make sure to get Fender size screws.

The edges were nicely rounded and it's smooth to the touch but the surface is pitted and scratched. On both. I checked to see if there was plastic on there which can look scratched etc. These look like someone sold their used neck plates.

Affordable and correctly sized, and generally gets the job done. However, over three guitars, I snapped two of these screws and stripped three more - the metal is unfortunately just not very high quality. It works fine when fully assembled, but may take a bit more patience to get there.

I bought these for a project and they will be perfect for that. HOWEVER, you will not be happy if you want this for a guitar. There are numerous imperfections. It is not smooth. They have a good weight, but the chrome is cheap and pockmarked.

The screws work. The plate does it's job. I don't use the rubber piece on guitars. I use them on a couple of strats and tele's so far.

Have purchased these twice. Wish they sold them in packs of 4 or 6. Both time I purchased them they arrived in spot on condition shinny/great chrome and screws acceptably strong. If I could make an improvement suggestion pack with hardened screws because out of the 16 screws I have used I did break one.
