Thermometer doesn't give accurate temperature. My instant thermometer reads 212 degrees when placed in boiling water. This one jumped to 150 and stayed there in the same water. When I went to product support the suggestion was to turn it off and reinstall batteries. As it is manual, with no batteries or on/off switch the support was no help at all. I rarely fry things so I hadn't had a chance to use it before the return deadline passed. Don't buy this product.

I have a traditional glass bulb thermometer for candy making that I prefer to use. I bought this for taking temperatures of food. This has a wider range than a regular meat thermometer which assumes that only the limited range of safe cooked meat temperatures would be required. You can use this to determine how hot water is for the yeast when bread making. You could temp cooking oil when frying. The movable red pointer that I assume you would set to your desired temperature is flimsy. It fell off and I just threw it away. It was distracting and pointless anyway. Other than that minor flaw, the thermometer is calibrated and works well. It is stainless steel with a glass facing (not plastic) and should hold up for years to come. The bonus IMO is that it is analog not digital. As such, it does not use batteries and thus will always be ready to use when you need it. You can see the dial move, climbing in real time as the temperature is being gauged. That is not always possible with a digital battery operated thermometer.

The ad shows it as coming in a box. Mine came loose in an Amazon envelope and no instructions. Arrow is not on zero but instead is on 22 degrees. No way to calibrate it. If you want your liquid to be 350 degrees I suppose you would have to wait until the arrow points to 372 degrees. Guess I'll have to forego the dollars spent on this and purchase a better one.

This thermometer failed to measure the temperature in my liquid. It moves slow but doesn't seem to arrive at any correct temperature. I believed that the traditional thermometer would be more reliable that digital one which depends on battery and I was wrongUpdate: Seller reached out and offered full refund

Received product as described, seems to be of decent quality, should do the job as needed. Only needed to be calibrated slightly. Like that the length of the stem is shorter to use in smaller pots. Product send to be of good quality for the money. Simple design and easy to read.

This works well and is a good basic thermometer. I use it for candy and it has worked well for that. It fits in any size pan and long enough that you can still see what temperature.

This is great. I can put it in the oven, close the door, and check it after a while. Most thermometers melt. This one doesn't.
