I got into cany making at Christmas and didn't have one of these. I had to stir caramel FOREVER and had a thermometer draped over the side of my pot which made it hard to stir the entire pot and caused me to burn some. I found this and it's a total game changer! Seriously why can't I come up with things like this! The screen is easy to read and th design is perfect. I can't speak to batterly life since I just got it recently but so far so good.

The idea is great for having to stir hot candy. Seems to work accurately. My only complaint is that the black top end with the temp screen is kind of loose. It appears like it will fall off while stirrimg necause my hand kind of hits it, so I was very aware of it when I was stirring since it would be ruined and ruin my candy if it fell off into my pot. Other than that, great product and good price.

I hesitated when I saw the reviews indicating an issue with this device because there were only 5% of the reviews with 1 star. I figured with so many 5 star reviews at 74% there must be some random issues that likely would befall me, boy was I wrong. The main issue that I have is that it was pretty much dead on arrival, that is, it failed to operate properly. The display showed 3 degrees. It was delivered on a day when it was 50 degrees outside, so there should never have been a reading that low. In addition the display did not show complete digits, that is, portions of the indicators that represent a digit did not fully display. Running warm water over the probe did not affect it whatsoever, 3 degrees was all it could muster.I did my due diligence though and I disassembled and checked the battery with my voltmeter and found it to be in good condition at 1.5 volts. A note should be taken here, as the battery holder, after removing two screws and a plastic cover, (sure don't want that to fall off I guess) has metal "tangs" bent over on both sides to ensure that it doesn't fall out as well. Had to bend a tang in order to remove it. Don't this would last long. Such a poor design. In keeping with poor designs, consider the spatula that has the probe slide all the way through the handle down to the flat portion of it where it has an opening to expose the probe. Initially one might think that is a great feature, as you can remove it too and use it either in or out, however, wait until you get around to cleaning that small opening that runs the length of the handle, when it is full of melted chocolate, or caramel, or some other unbelievable sticky mess that will be left behind after finishing a recipe. All that said, I am glad it was DOA so I didn't have to face that prospect. As you can tell by now I returned the device. My advice to you if you are reading this and considering this product, DON'T. Of course it is returnable... and maybe you get one that works, but that in itself looks to me like a whole other problem with cleaning.I had actually ordered two of them and they were from different manufacturers, but they looked remarkably similar. The price for them was similar too, but the second one I ordered had a clip and an extra battery. Hopefully it will end up being a good one
