This basic ascender is well made and the catch works perfectly for me. One thing of note is the design is mirrored from many of the popular name-brand ones on the market. Looking at the open end, the catch is on the right, whereas many other have it on the left. This doesn't affect functionality, just possibly how you hold and manipulate it. It may feel a bit odd if you've used the other type a lot.

I have used this for over 2 years while diving. Quite durable especially given I use it in a saltwater environment and don't clean it often if at all.
