This is coming from someone who is paid to do electronic repair. It may be that adhesive is released with heat, but that is pretty much useless if you want to apply it with your bare hands. I did use heat to an area to start it to stick, but that did not work either. It's not really shrink tape. Don't plan on this working.

Tape is 2" wide. 0.038" thick before shrinking. Shrinking occurs only along the length of the tape. A 2" x 2" square shrinks to 1.0" along the length, but actually grows in width to 2.5". Thickness after shrinking is 0.064". So the appropriate real shrinkage is 2:1, not 4:1 as advertised.Wrapping around 10 AWG THWM wire (0.170" diameter) is difficult because the tape is so thick. A 1" length of tape made about 1.3 turns. I wrapped several turns of 0.043" steel wire around the 'bandage' to keep it closed while heating. After heating, the tape spanned only about 50% to 75% of the circumference of the 10 gauge wire.As expected, the heat-activated adhesive is tacky only while hot.

I had a leaking kitchen, 1-1/4" Cu drainpipe, located in a tight, wood floor joist area (picture). I am familiar with Heat Shrink materials, and I choose to use the 1" Heat Shrink tape for repairs. Several reviews I read were critical of this tape (flexibility and wrapping difficulty). What I found was the 1" tape, being about 1/32"+ thick, wrapped but not as tightly as I thought it should due to its thickness. Starting and ending the tape wrap seemed difficult (holding the tape in place during the wrap process) until I used electrical tape on the heat shrink tape ends to secure the tape. I started the wrap about 2" away from the critical area of the leak and ended the wrap about 1" from the critical area. The tape has about a 2 to 1 shrink ratio, so I did not have to have the tape tight, just snug and fairly flat to the work surface. On one side of the tape is a shiny glue compound (See Picture). It does not become sticky and gluey until heat is applied to the tape. On heating the tape via Heat Gun, the heat shrink tape shrunk tightly to the pipe and itself, and the glue on the tape became soft and squeezed out the edges of the tape sealing the tape to itself and the pipe. Be sure to heat from the center of the wrap to the ends of the wrap. The end product was a tight patch resolving my leaking pipe problem. I tried several other ways to solve the leak, and this one ended up being the most simple and effective method. I did not use a torch in fear of starting a fire in my walls. Hope this helps you!

This tape is heavier than i expected. I was taping headset wires so this is overkill. The tape has a glue backing that held in place while i heated and secured it in place. It was a bit difficult because the wire were so small. A great product for large projects. It works have been nice to understand how heavy this tape is so some level of measure in the product description would be appreciated.

This product seems to have a good heat activated adhesive lined shrink wrapping. It is thicker then I had expected which is great surprise on a durability view. It's a great product only thing for first time buyers It's a bit tricky to work with if you're not doing a larger area. But it works great after you find the trick to hold it in position and Heating it without over heating or burning yourself I believe it will last and protect the area for a very long time. I will be purchasing more in the future.
