I purchased this unit in October of 2022. The installation was fairly straightforward. The unit worked well for a while, but started throwing codes before the first year was over. The diagnosis from tech support was a low refrigerant probably caused by a leak. It’s important to note that although this is a diy unit, it is illegal for anyone accept a licensed Hvac technician to add refrigerant to any unit. The only hvac tech I could find to work on it was someone from Craigslist. $900 later I was able to use a $300 tool to find the leak. Please note that most hvac repair companies will not work on a Mrcool unit. I was sent a new unit. The new unit performed well for the rest of that winter, and through the summer. When I performed all the maintenance tasks in preparation for winter the unit was unable to perform the heating function. After going through all the prescribed troubleshooting tasks I reached out to tech support. I was told it was definitely a leak ,and to find an hvac specialist to check the refrigerant level, and that a video, and a report from the technician was necessary in order for the warranty to cover the unit’s replacement. I spent the next four months looking for someone to come look at the unit. The company offered a list of potential companies that would service the unit, but they were all out of state, and were actually Mrcool dealers. I finally talked to someone local who said that no one will work on Mrcool because of their poor tech support,and it’s hard to find parts. I am now the owner of two nonfunctional Mrcool units that are quit expensive to take to the dump. I could see how this could be an appealing product for someone with a lot of hvac experience, but for me it’s been an expensive lesson.

First impression the units are nice and the installation isn’t bad if you are a mechanical type of person. Initially when we used the units we encountered a problem and the mrcool tech helped me through it. We installed during the summer and the ac was a welcome treat. However once we reached the winter we encountered a huge problem with no real solid help/solution from mrcool. The units are two 9k and one 24k unit. When the 24k unit is heating the other two 9k units will constantly run when on. Even if we have the temp set at the minimum heat temp of 62 it’s still pumping out 85 degree air. The room gets unbearable hot when on then cold when you turn it off. The programming on these systems is just horrible. I cannot understand why it does not maintain the room temp by turning off and on even if it was a range of a few degrees off but not 23 degrees. The tech line has offered no help in the solution to the problem.For those like us where we could not afford to have a professional come and install a $15+ system I wish we would have gone with a single zone system. The multi zone systems are just to complex and have too many issues. I had high hopes after reading the reviews of these products but found that the reviews posted at most sites are not representative of the actual experiences people are having with the products.I’m sure I’ll get a comment say “ oh we are so sorry please reach out to us”. Well we have and we are not satisfied with your response service or products. $6000 dollars later we have a system that isn’t reliable or trustworthy.Check your area to see if there is a mrcool installer/repair tech in your area. If not good luck getting anyone to come and work on it. I doubt mrcool is going to send a tech a hundred miles to fix your system.Buyer beware

After being quoted 50k and 35k by hvac companies for installation of minisplits, I got brave and ordered this unit. It was shockingly easy to install with no previous experience. If you can drill a hole, put in some screws and screw together pipes, you can do this (though I did get an electrician to do the wiring for me). I'm toasty warm and happy (and save a huge amount of $$)

This is my second 36k and fourth Mr. Cool unit. They were all easy to install and none took less than an hour to setup.
