We tried cheaper supports and that was a waste of money. The RAM bars are sturdy and keep the tablets right where you put them.

First time I have used a ram mount, purchased to mount my Garmin GPS on my SxS awesome quality and works exactly as required.

I have been looking for something like this to install my GPS/Fish Finder on my boat. My windshield is so low that there was no way to install the Fish Finder. But with this extender, it moves the Fish Finder far enough out to be able to mount it. Very sturdy.

I have tried a bunch of different methods of mounting my phone in my car, and this mount was the first one that worked well for me.I like that this mounts to the actual surface of the dashboard. Personally, I pried up the dashboard cover, drilled some holes, and bolted this down onto my dashboard (I will be driving my car into the ground and don't care about resale value, but even if I did those holes are pretty small and would be pretty easy to make virtually unnoticeable by just filling them and adding a little dab of paint to match the color), and it is rock solid. I think it would probably hold pretty solidly if attached with adhesive (such as VHB tape) if one wanted to do that instead.The rubberized ball socket joints of the mount itself are also rock solid once tightened, so the combination of that and having this bolted down means my phone is very sturdily mounted to the dashboard, which is just what I want.The ball socket joints and nice long arm make this mount very adjustable as well. I was able to adjust the positioning so that while my phone is mounted, I can plug cables into it, the screen directly faces me while I'm driving, my view out of the windshield is unobstructed, and I can see and access all of the displays, controls, vents etc in my dash. This is the first mount I've been able to find where I haven't had to compromise on any of the above.Another perk of this mount is that it is part of a whole ecosystem of interoperable parts. RAM Mounts offers a variety of different parts and mounts that all work together, so you can swap out different attachment mechanisms for the base (like a suction cup for your windshield) or the top (like a cradle or a magnetic mount to hold your phone) if you prefer.I wish RAM offered a magsafe-compatible top for this, but the flat surface of this product makes it pretty easy to attach any stick-on magsafe mount.Overall, this is an excellent, very sturdy, highly adjustable mount that meets all of my needs and holds my phone reliably.It's also nice to be able to support an American company making quality products.

Ty he reason for 4 stars is that there's not enough "universal" hole patterns. I was only able to attach 2 of the 3 points on my depth finder. It's only on a kayak, so won't matter much. Be advised there's no hardware supplied either. Another reason for the rating. Make no mistake, it's one of the most sturdy on the market regardless of material used!

Made from Aluminum, with "plastic" ball and seems very sturdy. It is relatively short and that is good for my application of a Garmin Striker Plus 4 fish finder on the center console of a VIBE SG13 SOT fishing kayak. Hole patterns on round plates match the Garmin and VIBE hole patterns (just keep spinning until you find the right combination). Gives unlimited options for making the screen visible in variable light. I originally thought it was an extravagance and now think it is a necessity. I mounted it relatively close to my seat so I could easily access the Garmin buttons.

I was pleasantly surprised at how beefy the arm is! The full cash aluminum construction is strong and heavy enough to hold up a 10" iPad with ease. I can't wait for my iPad mount to arrive so I can put it to full use onboarding my boat!

Came across the Ram mount system a while back when looking for a way to secure my iPad for use in my vehicles. They are little on the expensive side but they just work. In a marketplace of cheap crap products it's refreshing to find something of quality. Purchased this longer arm to give me more mounting options in my Jeep - I can have low for everyday driving, or extend up to use the tablet as a dash cam. Disconnects from the dash in less than 10 seconds so I can stow for security. Holds my heavy cased IPad securely with virtually no shake or sag. Only gripe is the design limits articulation certain directions when folded back, would be nice to have the notches for the ball mounts orientated 90 degrees from each other. There may be an arm like that, I'll have to research. Overall this seems to be a good quality item that should last. Highly recommended.

It's sometimes difficult to visualize how something like this can be used to mount your equipment, and I wasn't quite sure myself if this would work to mount my Garmin echoMap in our '96 Sea Ray. Being an older boat, the design is more "rounded", and since GPS and bluetooth technology was still fairly new, it wasn't designed with ease of mounting aftermarket electronics. Finding flat mounting surfaces without throwing off the general appearance, wasn't easy.This Ram mount was about the longest I could find, which I needed to be able to fit a marine GPS behind the sharply sloped windscreen. As it turned out, the Garmin base matched up to a set of the many mounting holes the Ram mount had, after a couple of twists to find them. Some stainless steel bolts, run the cables, and this became a very solid mount that has performed flawlessly for over a year now. Because of the length, it can vibrate a bit when running on the water, so I added a small felt pad to the mount arm where it might have rubbed against the dashboard material.Very happy with this, everything installed perfectly without any hitches.
