The instructions specify a 11-13mm rope so make sure you have the correct size for this to work properly. For me this works better as a fall protection than an ascender. The clip only grabs when the load is on the carabiner side of the clip and there is no handle to move it up like some other ascenders. As a fall protection it feels very secure. Placing this above another ascender and moving it up as you climb up seems to work well. The clip easily slides up the rope with very little resistance. Overall the build quality feels good and works well.

I have used a lot of varied ascenders in my 40 years of climbing and this one is not what I would call an ascender. A better name would be fall arrester or rope stop. It is made well and functions exactly as stated in the instructions. Those instructions are basic but sufficient. Like many decives like theis one, you must use the size rope as specified. You also must use it exactly as it states. Overall, it would be ok for basic rope work, but I wouldn't ever use it for climbing.

I'm sure this device must be useful to SOMEONE, but certainly not for all of the use cases named in the title. I can speak to rescue applications, at least. I went through my county's search and rescue academy and spent a total of about four years in SAR. Gibbs ascenders are a common piece of gear in high angle rope rescue and they're critical for converting between raising and lowering systems. This device would be useless for that, because you can't simply attach it to a rope - you have to thread the rope in from the end. That wasn't clear from the product description. I ran this by a sport climber friend and she couldn't imagine a sport climbing use for it either. My best guess is that this is intended for fall arrest use only and someone got carried away with the product description.

Easy to release, but grabs well when pulling against rope.Would be nice if it could attach to rope without having to thread it from the rope end.
