There have just been a handful of times when I've wanted to make something that would require a candy thermometer and had to pass the recipe by because I didn't have this kitchen staple. Very glad I came across this one. Really like the length, the LCD screen and the ability to clip it to edge of pot. It's super simple - tells me the temperature.

It’s easy to read than the old glass one. Highly recommend this product.

This candy thermometer is so easy to read! My old one is a glass tube that has the tiny little tick marks that the mercury rises to, and they are so difficult to see and read accurately. When making candy, the glass tube also gets so steamy, making the tiny measurement marks even more difficult to see. My favorite fudge recipe calls for the base mixture to be heated to 232 degrees, and the little measurement marks only show every 5 degrees, making it even harder to tell accurately when the mixture was at 232. I love this thermometer because it is accurate but mainly because it gives me a large digital readout. It is so much easier to know the temperature compared to looking at the little tick marks on a glass thermometer. I can easily see the temperature at a glance -- no more sticking my nose down into a hot pot of boiling candy to try and read the thermometer. This one is definitely safer for that reason. The clip works really well, also. It lets you place the bottom tip of the thermometer exactly where you want it. I prefer it an inch or two up off the bottom surface of the pan. The clip holds it right where you place it, and is easy to adjust up or down if your needs change, even while cooking. The set also comes with a sleeve to protect the thermometer, and even a spare battery. It's all nicely boxed. This is a terrific thermometer and I'm so glad to have an option that is not just easier to see and read, but also safer.

My mom loves to make candy for Christmas but she could not see the numbers on the candy thermometer she had so I got her this one and she was very happy

Looks great. Love the 2 clips included. The sheath is kind of funny it being so long but hey, its there to protect the probe when storing. I used it to make some candy and it was consistently around 10 degrees off(it read too low) for me. If I had relied on the reading my candy would've been ruined. Extremely disappointing because otherwise it's a smart little temp probe at a good price.

This digital thermometer is very accurate, reading the precise boiling point of water at 212°F. I tested on several different things such as boiling water, cold waffles, warm coffee, holding between my fingers, and ice, quickly moving from one to another. The temperature readings change rapidly, with the change in temperature slowing somewhat as it nears the final reading. This has the capability to read C or F per the preference of the person using it.A spare battery is included in addition to the battery already installed. Accessing the battery compartment was difficult. I didn’t have a screwdriver with an extra-wide head for the slot, so I used a dime instead. There was a pull tab to open the battery cap the first time. I put the cap back on and removed again, having to use a slender screwdriver to lift the cap.The display will tilt to various angles for ease of reading. Power is engaged and shut off with a press of the orange button at the top of the display. The power will automatically shut off in 15 minutes if the temperature stops changing more than a degree or two.Another orange button on the display face will hold the current temperature so it won’t change when you remove the thermometer from whatever you are testing. The temperature starts changing very rapidly once you remove the thermometer, so this can be handy to know what the temperature was when testing the inside of meat where you can’t necessarily see the display. The unit comes with 2 different types of pot rim clips, and a plastic guard to protect the sharp tip. All those things can be removed and the thermometer held in a long plastic tube with a pocket clip similar to the type on an ink pen. That pocket clip is also long enough to guard the sharp tip so you won’t get stabbed by accident. A lot of chefs would use the pocket clip to have this handy at a moment's notice.I used this thermometer for making bread where the water temperature needs to be between 110°F and 115°F for the yeast to properly activate. If the temperature variance is outside of that range, the yeast doesn’t react well and you must start over.I have a manual thermometer which I’ve used before for starting yeast, and have often misread the temperature because the markings on the dial are tiny. This digital thermometer was very precise and much easier to read. The yeast activated perfectly the first time and the bread was a success. This digital thermometer is accurate to a tenth of a degree, easy to operate and read, and provides a reading much faster than an analog thermometer. The temperature range is also much broader than the limitations of most analog thermometers.Keep the instructions handy because there are little glitches which can occur with the electronics, and those instructions will inform you how to overcome those glitches.
